Drifting over a
panorama of a thousand ancient pagodas, silent in the
shadow of low-slung mountains and against the banks of
the mighty Irrawaddy river. Scattered beneath you, these
fabulous spires start to glow with the dawn, and then
blaze with vibrant colour as the sun climbs over the far
horizon.
From this unique platform the landscape slowly comes
alive; with the lazy smoke of cooking fires drifting
between the stupas; with crocodile lines of red-robed
monks collecting alms, and with the delighted cries of
children who wave in excitement at your passage
overhead.
Truly the adventure of a lifetime, no visit to Myanmar
could be complete without a balloon flight over the
fabulous jewel that is Bagan.

Balloon over bagan Service
Now visitors to Myanmar can view
what Marco Polo described as 'one of the finest sights
in the world' - from the unique and enchanting platform
of a hot air balloon basket.
The magic of Bagan has inspired
visitors for many centuries. One of the most remarkable
sights in Asia, ancient temples dot the landscape as far
as the eye can see. Now 'Balloons over Bagan' affords
visitors a unique opportunity to see this ancient
kingdom as it has never been seen before.
Our champagne flights take place
early in the morning, at sunrise or an hour or so before
sunset. Light winds and stable weather conditions are
needed, the speed of the balloon and the length of the
flight are governed by the strength and velocity of the
wind.
Ordinarily an average of 45 mins of
flight duration is expected. However, the entire
experience will last about 2 1/2 hours. On landing, our
fully trained Myanmar ground crew will pack the balloon
whilst passengers enjoy a glass or two of celebratory
champagne.
Capacity
The balloon has room for 8 passengers
in four separate compartments plus a pilot. Our largest
balloon can accommodate 12 passengers also in four
compartments. We will continue to operate a maximum of
three balloons at any one time. Total capacity will
therefore increase to 28 passengers per flight during
the months of November, January, February and March, and
will increase to 20 passengers per flight during October
What
do we see?
Bagan as you’ve never seen it before!
Like a bird would see and wherever the wind takes you!
The exciting thing about ballooning is that you just
don’t know. You may see Bagan waking up in the morning.
You will see many temples in the distance and get an
aerial view of Bagan. Sometimes you may fly over
villages and see people getting up in the morning and
feeding their animals; or fly over fields and see people
going to market. It is an amazing experience.
Is it safe?
Very. Commercial passenger
ballooning is the safest form of all air transport.
In Bagan we are always very careful. We only fly when
there are light winds.
-
Our pilots
and technicians are qualified and registered in the
UK
-
Our
balloons are built to the highest standards of the
British aerospace industry by Cameron Balloons Ltd,
the world’s largest manufacturer of hot air
balloons.
-
All our
crew are trained to the highest international
standards and have all been trained in first aid.
Can our children fly?
For safety reasons there are age
and height restrictions. We set a minimum age of 8 years
old, but as a general rule, all passengers must be able
to see over the basket.
Where do we take
off?
The take off site changes with the
wind and is decided by the pilot in command on the day
of the flight.
Where
do we land?
Wherever the wind takes you! This
could be a field by a village, a field in the middle of
nowhere, on a sandbank, or even across the river, which
will involve a rescue by boat – anywhere!!
What time will we
be picked up?
For the morning flight, passengers
are usually picked up at their hotels by our Balloons
over Bagan bus between 05h30 and 06h00 in the morning
depending on the location of your hotel and the hotels
of other passengers. The exact time will be given to you
the evening before after you come to our sales desk at
the Bagan hotel to re-confirm your flight.
