The City of Gem Mines
Situated in Mandalay division and is about 50 miles from Mandalay on the mountain range at 3800ft above sea level.
Mogok is surrounded by chains of high mountains, as in the middle of the jar. Geological age is estimated at over 500 million years. Mountains and abyss, forest, streams and gurgling brooks are the topographical features of the
Mogok region forming a scene of natural splendor. At the time of Bagan era about 1207 AD, the city was part of the fiefdom of Momeik Shan Chieftain. The mines such as world famous Rubies, Sapphires, Garnets, Spaniel, Topaz, Emerald are all vested in the area around Mogoke.
